The property was held via a Guernsey-based offshore trust, established for inheritance tax planning purposes with the client’s children as beneficiaries. On top of this, the existing mortgage term had expired, leaving the client paying a high SVR (Standard Variable Rate) and requiring swift refinancing. However, almost no lender was willing to engage due to the client’s profile and the legal complexities involved.
