When applying for a residential mortgage as an IT contractor worker, there are a variety of different factors which will impact how lenders will approach your application; the same is true of a buy-to-let mortgage.

If you have worked as a contractor for a long time, then by providing one to two years of income history, you are likely to have many lenders who are happy to work with you.
